Hutchinson Island Intermodal Facility

The Hutchinson Island Intermodal Facility is a multiphase construction project designed to extend Savannah’s transit services to the other side of the Savannah River. This facility will strengthen the connection between Hutchinson Island and River Street and put the infrastructure in place for serving the demands expected with the island’s future development.

Construction of the first phase of this project was scheduled to take six months, using available FTA grant funds to cover 80 percent, with a 20 percent local match provided by an in-kind donation of real property. The property, Parcel 7, was under joint ownership of Chatham County and the Georgia International and Maritime Trade Center Authority. Conveyance of property ownership to CAT was accepted by the CAT Board of Directors in the February 2014 Board meeting.

In March 2014, the CAT Board awarded the contract for Construction Management at Risk to Elkins Constructors, Inc. following the Request for Qualifications process.

In October 2014, construction of Phase 1 was completed.
